Discover Tampa

A look at the local businesses, attractions, and character that make Tampa worth exploring.

Discover Tampa

Tampa stretches across 80+ districts, from the Latin quarter of Ybor City to the waterfront Riverwalk to the boutiques of Hyde Park Village. The TECO Line Streetcar and Pirate Water Taxi connect the pieces. This is Florida's third-largest city, and it doesn't feel like any other.

What Sets Tampa Apart

The story starts in Ybor City. Cuban, Spanish, and Italian immigrants built the cigar industry here in the 1880s, and by 1900 it was the "Cigar Capital of the World." That Latin heritage still defines the food, the nightlife, and the energy on 7th Avenue. Add in Gasparilla's pirate invasion tradition (since 1904), three championship sports teams, and a 2.6-mile Riverwalk connecting world-class museums — and you get a city that's hard to pin down in one sentence.

Where to Start

  • Ybor City (7th Avenue) — Historic Latin quarter. Cuban restaurants, nightlife, street art. National Historic Landmark District.
  • Hyde Park Village — Upscale boutiques, fine dining, tree-lined streets.
  • Sparkman Wharf — Shipping container restaurants from local chefs, waterfront biergarten.
  • Armature Works — Heights Public Market food hall in Tampa Heights.
  • SoHo (South Howard) — Trendy restaurants and bars in South Tampa.
  • Water Street — New development hub with modern retail and dining.

Seasonal Highlights

  • Gasparilla Season (Jan-Mar): Pirates "invade" Tampa Bay. 300,000+ spectators for the main parade. Music festival, arts festival, and distance classic follow.
  • Football season: Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium with the iconic pirate ship.
  • Hockey season: Lightning at Amalie Arena, back-to-back Stanley Cup champs.
  • Year-round: Ybor City Saturday Market, Sparkman Wharf concerts, Riverwalk activities.

Getting Around

The Tampa Riverwalk connects major attractions on foot or bike. TECO Line Streetcar runs between downtown, the Channel District, and Ybor City. Pirate Water Taxi hits 15+ stops along the waterfront. Downtown core is walkable.
