A look at the local businesses, attractions, and character that make New Port Richey worth exploring.

In the 1920s, silent film stars built homes along the Cotee River and investors called this place the "Hollywood of the East." The bubblegum-pink Hacienda Hotel from 1927 still stands. The Richey Suncoast Theatre still puts on shows. The river still runs through downtown. The glamour may have moved on, but the character stayed.

What Sets New Port Richey Apart

Thomas Meighan, one of the biggest silent film stars of his era, built a home here. Golfer Gene Sarazen was a resident. The Hacienda Hotel opened in 1927 to host visiting movie stars — it's still operating, with a restaurant and bar inside that Mediterranean Revival building.

The Richey Suncoast Theatre (originally named after Meighan) opened in 1925 and runs live plays, comedy nights, and classic movie screenings. The Cotee River runs through downtown to the Gulf, with Sims Park's amphitheater, splash pad, and river walk along its banks.
