Most beach towns run a weekly sunset happy hour or a seasonal concert series. Clearwater Beach runs a celebration every single evening. Since 1995, Sunsets at Pier 60 has turned the act of watching the sun go down into a nightly gathering. Artisans, street performers, musicians, and a crowd that grows from a handful to hundreds by the time the sky turns pink.
Three decades of that. It stopped being an event a long time ago. Now it's a habit.
Signature Events
Sunsets at Pier 60. Daily, year-round. The 1,080-foot pier becomes the gathering point about two hours before sunset. Craftspeople set up booths, performers stake out spots, and by the time the sun touches water, the crowd fills the pier and the surrounding sand. Regulars have their favorite spots. First-timers stand at the rail with phones out. Both leave satisfied.
Sanding Ovations Masters Cup. Fall. Professional sand sculptors spend days building ten-foot-tall works from compressed sand. Not bucket-and-shovel sandcastles. Temporary monuments. The sculptures stay up for weeks after the competition, slowly eroding back into the beach they came from. Art that doesn't pretend to be permanent.
Clearwater Beach Uncorked. Annual. Gulf Coast food meets wine on the sand. Local restaurants set up stations, distributors pour, live music keeps the evening moving. One of the few events that pulls the island's food scene out of individual restaurants and puts it all in one place. You learn what's worth a return visit.
Through the Year
Spring brings the annual migration. Beach packed, bars busy. Beyond the spring break crowds, March and April deliver fishing tournaments and the best weather of the year. Crowds bother you? Come on a weekday.
Summer is peak beach. Families claim spots by 9 AM, water sports operators run nonstop. Fourth of July fireworks light up the Gulf. Afternoon thunderstorms clear the sand for an hour, cool everything down, and leave behind the kind of sunset skies photographers build careers on.
Fall is when the light changes. Crowds thin. Sunsets get more saturated. Cooler water temperatures bring different fish species closer to shore. Beach cleanups run through the season. This is the stretch locals protect like a secret, and they'll tell you about it the second you ask.
Winter brings snowbirds who settle in for months. The beach takes on a slower rhythm. Holiday celebrations light up Pier 60 and Beach Walk. Restaurants shift from tourist-pace to regular-customer mode. The food gets better for it.

Where Things Happen
Pier 60 is the default. The nightly celebration and larger festivals happen on the pier and surrounding sand. Beach Walk turns into a different place during resort events. String lights, live music spilling from hotel patios, cocktail glasses catching the last light off the Gulf. The Marina is home base for anything on the water. And the beach itself is the largest venue. Sand sculpture competitions, volleyball tournaments, fitness classes. No walls, no ceiling, just sand and sky.
