Every January, pirates invade Tampa Bay. A 165-foot ship sails into the harbor, cannons fire, and 300,000 people line Bayshore Boulevard for one of the largest parades in the country. That's Gasparilla. And that's just the start of the season.
Signature Events
Gasparilla Pirate Fest — Late January. 300,000+ spectators watch pirates "invade" from the Jose Gasparilla ship. Tradition since 1904.
Gasparilla Music Festival — February. 50+ bands across 5 stages at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park.
Gasparilla Festival of the Arts — Early March. 55th annual art festival at Julian B. Lane. One of the region's top art events.
Through the Year
- Gasparilla Season (Jan-Mar): Children's parade, pirate fest, music festival, arts festival, film festival, distance classic. The busiest stretch.
- Summer: Busch Gardens season, family tourism, afternoon thunderstorms.
- Football season (Sep-Jan): Buccaneers game-day energy. Raymond James Stadium with the pirate ship cannons.
- Hockey season (Oct-Apr): Lightning at Amalie Arena. Channelside comes alive.
Recurring Events
- Ybor City Saturday Market — Weekly. Fresh produce, crafts, local vendors on 7th Avenue.
- First Friday in Ybor — Monthly. Art, food, music in the historic Latin quarter.
- Sparkman Wharf concerts — Regular outdoor music at the waterfront.
- Heights Public Market events — Community gatherings at Armature Works.
Where Things Happen
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park host the major festivals. Ybor City handles nightlife and weekly markets. Sparkman Wharf and the Riverwalk fill in the rest.
